| Name: | Azuma Yunoki |
|---|
CHARACTER
Character's Name: Azuma Yunoki
Series/Fandom: La Corda d'Oro
Original/Alternate: Original
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Appearance: Yunoki stands at 5'6", with long, silky, shampoo commercial-worthy, purple hair that reaches about halfway down his back and golden eyes. What draws the eye is that he's always so elegantly poised and proper, never with his hair ruffled and messy unless it's blowing stylishly in the wind. From the very way he moves and gestures, he exudes the aura of someone born into wealth, even when out of uniform; his 'casual outfits' are something out of the very pages of a high-end catalog that peasants can only dream to touch.
Personality: To all his classmates and peers, Yunoki is known as the perfect gentleman and student. Always pleasant, with a kind or encouraging word for anyone, it seems he has no faults or negative traits. A paragon of virture who never complains and never minding the gaggle of adoring (and most of them rabid) fangirls that seems to congregate around him.
However, only Kahoko Hino knows of his true personality - arrogant, conceited, and not the white prince everyone else envisions him to be. When the two of them are alone, she finds herself constantly the butt of all his remarks, as he casually insults everything about her, from her intelligence to her sense of style. He enjoys bullying her and knowing that she can't do anything in return; when she threatens to tell everyone of his true personality, he challenges her to try and do so, asking who would would they believe - the General Education student whom no one knows or Yunoki, the perfect gentleman? Hino also learns quickly that refusing or challenging Yunoki in public while he maintains his perfect student mask quickly villainizes her in the eyes of others.
His bullying is also a sort of twisted display of affection; after asking her to pretend to be his girlfriend in order to discourage a potential marriage candidate, he kidnaps Hino after school, he takes her out shopping where she's forced to try on various outfits and accessories while Yunoki and the shopgirl lament how plain she is. But when Hino protests in frustration, not wanting to deal with the verbal abuse, Yunoki tells her to "Shut up and enjoy being treated like a princess," and while she may not care how she looks, he does.
Hino is the only one to know the full force of his dark personality, however. Even at home he continues his facade; not even Kazuki Hihara, Yunoki's closest friend whom he genuinely cares about, knows about this side of his personality. His sister is aware of the darker side of his personality, and there are several students who feel that there's something suspicious about Yunoki but are unable to prove anything. His perceived personality as a prince also allows him to get away with cutting and hurtful remarks disguised as good will or having said with good intention, having honed his sarcasm to a razor-sharp edge.
Skills and Abilities: An exceptionally talented flutist, he also displayed extraordinary skill as a pianist when he was young. However, it's been years since he last played the piano since his grandmother has forbidden him from playing, so his current piano skill is unknown.
Personal Belongings: One gold flute and black case for the flute, along with several assorted scores, one of them for the piece Adagio.
DUELIST
School Role: Senior in High School
Duelist/Rose Bride: Duelist
Duelist Weapon: A golden sabre, with a basket mesh hilt and pistol grip, with white leather as it's wrappings. The blade of the sabre is of standard length and the color of white-gold, with a flower motif of bright, burnished gold molded on his hilt. The weaves of the basket mesh has been molded as strands of lavender and the gold has a dark, almost black cast to it.
Uniform: Yunoki's Jardin uniform is the exact same as his school uniform, except with no school emblem. He wears a off-color blazer with dark trimming, along with a pair of black slacks, and a black vest over a white blouse. Around his neck is a dark green, almost black, jabot that's carefully tucked into the vest, and a gold pin shaped like a ball with a small feather projecting from it clipped to his jabot. He's always seen wearing his uniform properly, no modifications of any sort and all buttoned up accordingly. Occasionally, he may unbutton his blazer, but it's extremely rare that he'll do so. However, if it's too warm, he'll take off the jacket and drape it carefully folded across his arm.
His duelist uniform is the same, except for some modifications - his trimming is instead gold, with an ivy pattern donning his collar and sheath. On his left shoulder is a guard, decorated in the same gold ivy pattern; he also wears a white belt made specifically for his sheath and sword.
HISTORY
Born in a rich family of old money gained from the ancient art of flower-arranging, Azuma was the third and youngest son. At an young age he displayed remarkable talent at the piano, but was forced to quit by his grandmother once it became clear that he far exceeded his older brothers in skill. Tradition stated that the youngest son was to be raised to support the older sons and it seemed to never exceed them. However, his grandfather encouraged him to continue his musical inclinations and presented him with a flute, which he was able to master skillfully.
His grandmother was a major factor in his life. As the matriarch of the family, everyone had to follow her rules lest they be disowned and kicked out of the family and its money. She had also told Yunoki that he was only allowed to consider music as a mere hobby and to continue playing his flute until high school, where he would then be forced to give it up in order to focus on a major in college, one that would somehow help the family's fortune.
Needless to say, Yunoki grew up deeply resenting his older brothers and grandmother.
For high school, Yunoki attended Seisou Academy, a prestigious school that's split into two divisions - a music division, for the talented, and a general ed. division. It was at Seisou where he met Kazuki for the first time, the other boy at first mistaking Yunoki for a upperclassman on their first day of school. Unexpectedly, the two became close friends and by the time they became third years, Kazuki had been one of the few people Yunoki honestly cared about.
It was in their third year when the school's concurs occurred, a musical competition between the students. It was through this event that Yunoki was introduced to Kahoko Hino from the first time, when he came across Hino defending fellow contestant Shoko Fuyumi from three rabid fangirls of Yunoki. He kept up his pleasant exterior around Kahoko, as all the contestants began to run into each other more often while preparing for the competition, such as going shopping with Kazuki and Hino for a present for Kazuki's older brother. He abruptly dropped his mask in front of Kahoko suddenly, shortly after the first concurs. Cornering her against the wall while the two of them were alone on the school roof, he told her bluntly that she disgusted him and that she should drop from the concurs before walking off, leaving Kahoko understandably hurt, confused, and shocked.
Furthering her confusion, Azuma acted like a complete gentleman the next day, as if he never spoke such hateful things the day before. However, when Hino falls and scrapes her knee, Yunoki volunteers to bring her to the infirmary where he reveals his dark side to her once again when they're alone, pinning her down on the bed. He leaves without doing anything but damaging Kahoko's pride and shaking her up, but despite stating that he was disgusted by her, he realizes that it's the exact opposite - if anything, he enjoys seeing Hino's flustered face. Throughout the competition, he flirtatiously teases and bullies Kahoko, passing them off as just 'jokes'.
Although, Hino has her own effect on Yunoki. Throughout the first two concurs, he'd been holding himself back in accordance to his grandmother's ultimatum that he could not continue into musical career, something that would be expected of the winner in the completion. But during the third concurs, before Yunoki's turn, Kahoko states that while performing, she tries to do her best and have fun so the audience enjoys her performance as well. Yunoki doesn't understand why she cares so much and how the others have been affected by her, but when on stage, he finds himself provoked by her words and loses his composure, not restraining himself as he did before and winning
